Sophie came home from school yesterday with a friend, that I don't really know. I've seen her at school and in the classroom and Sophie has played at her house, once after school. I had never officially met the mom, we have just talked over the phone. I was preoccupied (on the phone) when the girls walked through the front door, I didn't get the full story of why the friend was there and what the situation was. I knew I was only going to be a couple of minutes on the phone and told the girls to go call her mom to let her know she was at our house. I wrapped up my phone call and the next thing I realized was that the mom was at my front door, sort of getting after her daughter for just coming over with out permission. I walked out to the entry way and the conversation went a little like this......
Sophie's friend: Sophie lied to me!
Me: How did she lie to you, honey??
Sophie's friend: She told me that she called my mom last night and arranged for us to have a play date today after school!!
Me: hmmmm.... REALLY?? As I give Sophie a stern look
Sophie: Sorry mom
Sophie's friend: And now I'm in big trouble!!!
Me: I am really sorry that she managed to come up with this fabricated story!
As the mom and I are discussing the situation and I am apologizing on the behalf of my daughter, the mom looks over at her daughter and begins to get closer to her and says, "did you cut your bangs?" The little girl looks up and timidly says... "yes." The light goes on in my mind and I look a little closer at my sweet angel and realize she has cut her bangs as well! We both begin to ask questions about where this happened, who's idea it was and who did the great work? The mom suggests we look in the back packs to see if there was a note from the teacher.
Sure enough, there was a note and this is what it read:
As we asked more questions about who, what, where, when and why, the story ends with, that Franky, a boy at school dared them to cut their bangs! Well, that irritated me even more..... I asked Sophie, "if he dared you to jump off a cliff, would you?" Her answer was, "well maybe?!" WOW, we are in for it with this girl! I told the mom I was very sorry for my daughters crazy story and that we had to meet under these circumstances. She was very kind and forgiving and they left. I was pretty angry with my little girl, so I sent her off to her room! I figured I needed to get myself together before I said something I didn't mean. I called my friend Nichole back and told her what had happened and we chatted about my different options. I have told two people (Nichole and Tiff) about this story and they both just cracked up.... thinking it is so funny! Which I have to admit, it is.... when it's not your child. This lying habit that my daughter is developing... is really scary for me and I don't know what to do about it or how to nip it before it gets out of hand! Looks like we need to come up with a different approach?! Being a mom is such a challenge at times. To know what to do or not to do, with each child and their individual personalities, is overwhelming for me at times. I am just grateful for the power in prayer and the help we can get from someone who knows them much better and for much longer than we can even imagine. I love each of my kids so much and just hope and pray that I will be guided in the right direction for each child. My hope is, is that I don't totally ruin them!
these pictures were taken when she was barely 5... i love her cute face in them.
It's a good thing she is so dang cute

Cuz' she was NOT on my high list yesterday!

Remember when one of your boys got a city bus and went somewhere all by himself on it? And you found out later! Which one was that! Each kid is so different! We have to handle each one so differently!
Lori ~ You have a great memory! And oh yes.... do i ever remember that!! We still talk about that. This girl has the same personality as Cooper! Such fun personalities but really hard sometimes.
