Adversity

Go here to read words of comfort from a husband to his wife. His words made cry. This truly is what life is all about. It's about who we can serve, when we are hurting so badly ourselves. The reason we are given challenges and adversity is to see how we will handle ourselves. Life is just a short test and I think Tiffany and Jason are passing with flying colors. They are great examples to me and have shown others how to handle themselves, in times of trial. Their relationship is so inspiring.

Ironically, my dad sent me an email this morning with these quotes attached to it:

  • Elder Orson F. Whitney said: “No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility. All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God … and it is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we come here to acquire and which will make us more like our Father and Mother in heaven” (quoted in Spencer W. Kimball, Faith Precedes the Miracle, 98).

Elder Richard G. Scott said: “When you face adversity, you can be led to ask many questions. Some serve a useful purpose; others do not. To ask, Why does this have to happen to me? Why do I have to suffer this now? What have I done to cause this? will lead you into blind alleys. It really does no good to ask questions that reflect opposition to the will of God. Rather ask, What am I to do? What am I to learn from this experience? What am I to change? Whom am I to help? How can I remember my many blessings in times of trial?” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1995, 18; or Ensign, Nov. 1995, 17).

I love the message in these quotes and hope that through my adversity, I can love my spouse a little more, be patient with my children a little more and serve those around me a little more. Putting others before ourselves, is an example of Charity, which is... The pure Love of Christ and I have a long way to go!

Those quotes were awesome and so inspiring! It is hard to dig deep and serve and think of others when we face adversity but I know that is how we get through our trials and it makes us stronger. You have been such an example to me of that! I know that if we stay close to the spirit by doing the things we are supposed to do be doing he will help guide through any challenge that may come our way.

I loved those quotes from your dad. Really puts everything in perspective. It's these trials in our life that make us stretch and grow. We signed up for them and maybe someday we will be thankful for them! You truly are a great example to all of us of a truly Christ like person.
